Pacific Football Once Again Featured On ESPN

FOREST GROVE – First it was the two-point conversion against Lewis & Clark.  Now it is the "flea flicker" touchdown.
For the second year in a row, Pacific football has been featured on ESPN.  The trick touchdown play run against Willamette on Saturday was featured on the Tuesday edition of SportsNation, the network's talk program driven by goings on in social media and the Internet.
The "flea flicker" play was featured as the final video of the "Weird Web Stories" segment, which features three videos from the Internet.  On Tuesday, the video was frozen as co-host Colin Cowherd was asked to choose what would happen next.  The choices were "Spectacular Spin Move,' "Flea Flicker For TD," or "Tackled By Teammate."
The play developed as a scripted trick play in Saturday's game against Willamette, which the Boxers lost 35-31.  With 4:51 left in the second quarter, quarterback P.J. Minaya (Jr., Wahiawa, Hawaii) handed off to running back Gunther Schultze (Jr., Bellflower, Calif.).  After running three yards. Schultze pitched back to Minaya, who threw the ball to an open Jacob Lawrence (So., Sherwood, Ore.) for a 34-yard touchdown pass that made the score 14-7 in favor of the Boxers.
This is the second time since the program was reinstated in 2010 that Pacific football has been singled out by "The Worldwide Leader In Sports."  A rare defensive two-point conversion by Bryan Mills (Jr., Imbler, Ore.) on Oct. 1, 2011, against Lewis & Clark was featured on that night's SportsCenter as the Top Play of the Day.
The full clip of Tuesday's "Weird Web Stories" can be seen online at http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8601445.  The full clip, complete with audio from Pacific play-by-play voice Matt Richert, can be seen at http://bit.ly/TJN2Eb.
