More news about: Wesley

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Wesley College's Jared Morris and Sean Hopkins have been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Football Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the second time this season that Hopkins has been honored by the ECAC while this is a first for Morris.

A junior safety from Toms River, N.J., Morris helped lead the fifth-ranked Wolverines to a 31-21 victory at No. 16 Huntingdon College on Saturday, November 27.  Morris recorded a team-high eight tackles, including two which went for a loss, and an interception.  The Hawks had come into the game averaging 43.3 points per game, but with Morris leading the defense, HC rushed for just 24 yards and turned the ball over four times.

Morris' secondary mate, Hopkins, returned four punts for 102 yards, including a 49-yard return for a touchdown.  The native of Georgetown, Del., also had a 41-yard return on the afternoon.  His scamper for a touchdown was the program's first in nearly four years when Larry Beavers ran a punt back against Gallaudet on November 15, 2008.  Hopkins, who also tallied four tackles on defense, currently leads all of Division III with a 21.5 yard per punt return average.

The Wolverines (7-1) close out the regular season on Saturday, November 3, when they host the Apprentice School in a 1 pm kickoff.
