ON SENIOR DAY, MUSTANGS ROUTH HAWKS IN 55-7 ECFC VICTORY

More news about: Mount Ida

Saturday, October 27, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - On senior day, the Mount Ida College football program broke the all-time record for wins in a season (7) with a 55-7 romping over visiting Becker College in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) action Saturday afternoon on a picture perfect day on the gridiron at Alumni Field.

In the history of the match-up, the Mustangs remain perfect against the Hawks at 8-0 since 2005.  The hosts continue their flawless league standing notching their fifth straight ECFC victory heading into a key conference bid at Gallaudet University next Saturday starting at 12 noon in Washington, D.C.

The Mount Ida College Athletic department honored nine football players and their long-time Manager before the contest.  Scott Drosendahl (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), Matt Bonomolo (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet), Jon Zullo (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law), Doug Hanlon (Everett, MA/Everett), Bobby Hemmann (Newington, CT/Newington), A.J. Knibbs (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood), Matt Valentini (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Jefferson TWP), Azim Carter (East Hartford, CT/East Hartford), Dane Finis (Canton, MA/UMASS-Dartmouth) and Manager Sean Longdon were recognized before the game for their contributions to the program throughout their tenures.  Mount Ida senior cheerleader Brittany Kenny (Johnston, RI/Hope) was also honored

The Mustangs allowed the first touchdown of the contest giving up an eight play, 79 yard drive finalizing on a 19 yard TD strike from junior quarterback Bobby Baker (Monroe, CT/Masuk) to junior wide out Shaun Llewellyn (Bloomfield, CT/Bloomfield) for the 7-0 advantage with less than three minutes to go in the opening quarter after a successful point after attempt by sophomore kicker Kyle Gregg (Charlotte, NC/Independence).

From then on, Mount Ida piled on 55 points throughout the remainder of the contest with no answer from the visitors wrapping up a convincing and commanding ECFC victory.  The game would come to a halt with 2:37 left in the contest after a heated confrontation on both sides in the middle of the field with the officials dispensing the game.

Drosendahl led Mount Ida under center going 11-18 through the air with 244 yards passing and two touchdown throws including a 65 yard strike to Hyman early in the game.  Mount Ida sophomore running back Chris McNally (Bourne, MA/Bourne) had a career day with 193 yards rushing and a touchdown.  Junior tail back Joey Smith (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside) also had the best game of his career with two rushing scores on eight carries for 35 yards.  Drosendahl would also add a rushing TD on five carries respectively.  Hyman and Valentini added touchdown catches each grabbing three balls combining for 150 yards through the air.  Hemmann converted two field goals from 42 and 27 yards out as well.

The Mount Ida defense was led by sophomore linebacker Armand Rivera (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) with 10 tackles while junior defensive back Frank Greene (Hamden, CT/Hamden) notched his third interception of the season adding 3.5 tackles.  Freshman safety Quan Lovett (Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth) made an impressive pick off to the house for six points.  Sophomore linebacker Kayln Smithson (Vilseck, Germany/Vilseck) also added an interception for his first of the season.   Smithson, Knibbs and freshman defensive lineman Rudolph Lewis (Roslindale, MA/Boston Latin Academy all added sacks.

For the visiting offense signal caller Baker completed 28 of his 43 passing attempts with three interceptions for 266 yards through the air.
