Greensboro Defeated by by Ferrum 35-12

The Pride football team suffered a 35-12 home setback on Saturday afternoon to Ferrum.  Greensboro had a pair of opportunities early but could not capitalize as the Panthers put up the first 35 points en route to victory.

The Pride reached the Ferrum redzone on each of their two opening drives.  Greensboro took its first possession of the day to the Panther 20-yardline before coming up empty.

The Pride would have another scoring chance on its next possession, as the defense forced a turnover at the Ferrum 17-yardline.  Greensboro could only muster one yard of offense and missed a field goal attempt to end the threat.

The Panthers would capitalize on The Pride's missed opportunities, finding the endzone on their next two possessions.  Greensboro had a chance to cut the deficit in half in the second quarter, moving the ball to the Ferrum 29 before turning it over on downs.

The Panthers would add a final touchdown prior to the break, taking a 21-0 lead into halftime.

Ferrum would tack on two more touchdowns in the third quarter, essentially putting the game away at 35-0.  Despite the score, The Pride continued to play hard in the fourth with two touchdowns for the final margin of 35-12.

Tripp Honeycutt was the recipient of Greensboro's first score, catching a two-yard pass from Ryan Throndset with 13:05 to go in the game.  Antwan Thorpe provided the final tally with a nine-yard scoring reception from Throndset with 1:10 remaining.

The Pride outgained Ferrum on the afternoon with 335 yards of total offense compared to 314 for the Panthers.  Greensboro picked up 171 yards through the air and 164 yards on the ground.  Ferrum, meanwhile, finished the day with 201 yards rushing and 113 yards passing.

Warren Scott Jr. surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark with 119 yards on 14 carries.  Throndset concluded his day with 21 pass completions on 40 attempts for 171 yards, two scores and three interceptions.  Antwan Thorpe was his primary target, grabbing eight catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.

Julian Cinotti led the defensive effort with 12 total tackles, including one tackle for loss.  James McClease came up with the lone turnover of the day on a fumble recovery.  Overall, The Pride defense notched seven total tackles for loss.

The defeat drops Greensboro to 4-4 on the season and 2-3 in the USA South.  The Pride will hit the road on November 3 at Christopher Newport in a 7 p.m. match-up.
