Stanton named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Salisbury University junior defensive back Greg Stanton has been named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Stanton helped the No. 8 Sea Gulls to a 24-21 win over Alfred University on Saturday with a game- and career-high 12 tackles. A Damascus, Md., native, Stanton made his fourth interception of the season and sixth of his career in the third quarter.

Stanton also posted half a tackle for loss and two passes broken up on the day.

Through seven games this season, Stanton is second on the team with 44 tackles and has 1.5 tackles for loss, six breakups and one blocked kick to go along with the four interceptions.

He is the first Salisbury player this season to earn Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Salisbury (6-1, 4-0 Empire 8) travels to Ithaca, N.Y., to take on Ithaca College on Saturday at noon.
