WASHINGTON – Sophomore Patrick Thomas was named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday, after helping lead CUA to a 34-7 win over Shenandoah on Friday. A native of New Jersey, Thomas finished with five tackles, a forced fumble, fumble recovery, interception and pass breakup against the Hornets.
With Thomas leading the way, the CUA defense forced five Shenandoah turnovers, including three fumbles and two interceptions.
Thomas picked off his pass midway through the first quarter to halt a Hornets drive as they attempted to tie things at seven.
The Cardinals' safety then forced a fumble and recovered the loose ball on the same play, which led to a CUA touchdown and 13-0 lead three plays later.
On the year, Thomas is third for CUA with 32 tackles and a pair of INTs.
Thomas and the Cardinals are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Virginia to face Emory & Henry. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
