Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Senior wide receiver Scott Cremens(Finskburg, MD/Westminster) entered Saturday's game against Juniata with nine receptions on the year. He matched that total against the Eagles and punched up a career-high 178 receiving yards and three touchdown catches to lead the 15th-ranked Blue Jays to a 40-20 victory at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon.

The win improves JHU's regular season winning streak to 19 games and its Centennial Conference winning streak to 17 games.

The Blue Jays (5-0, 4-0 Centennial) trailed 3-0 early in the second quarter before Cremens and junior quarterback Robbie Matey(Orlando, FL/Dr. Phillips) connected on back-to-back drives to give Hopkins a 13-3 lead.

Cremens' first touchdown reception covered 40 yards and capped a three-play, 60-yard drive that took just over a minute and gave JHU a 6-3 lead. After forcing a Juniata punt on its ensuing possession, the Blue Jays were pinned back to their one-yard line by Jordan Plymire's 62-yard punt.

For the second time in three weeks the Blue Jays went 99 yards for a touchdown, this time in just seven plays with Matey hitting Cremens from 29-yards out to polish off the drive. The Blue Jays never faced a third down on the drive and Matey also hit junior Bob D'Orazio(Bryn Mawr, PA/St. Joe's Prep) for a 38-yard gain to fuel the seven-play drive.

Staked to the 10-point lead, the Blue Jay defense pushed the margin to 16 on Juniata's next possession as senior Adam Schweyer(Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) intercepted a deflected Ward Udinski (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) pass at the Eagle 18 yard line and raced to the corner of the end zone to make it 19-3.

The 16-point lead held until late in the third quarter, when the Blue Jays went 80 yards in eight plays to push the lead to 26-6. With an even distribution of runs and passes, Hopkins moved from its own 20 to the Juniata eight, where senior Jonathan Rigaud(Pembroke Pines, FL/Pembroke Pines) scored on a tough run up the middle. Matey and Cremens kept the drive alive three plays before Rigaud's touchdown by converting a fourth-and-three with a 13-yard connection deep inside Eagle territory.

The teams traded four touchdowns in the final 10 minutes of the game to account for the 40-20 final score.

Matey threw five-yard touchdown passes to Cremens and D'Orazio to account for the Blue Jays' two fourth-quarter scores, while Udinski added scoring tosses of 19-yards to Julian Valdiserri (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) and 27 yards to Dominic Bornman (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) to close out the scoring.

Johns Hopkins piled up 502 yards of total offense with Matey throwing for a career-hgih 386 yards and a personal-best four touchdowns. In addition to Cremens' effort, the Blue Jays also got four receptions for 75 yards and the one score from D'Orazio, seven receptions for 57 yards from junior Dan Wodicka and three receptions for a career-high 62 yards from junior Brendan Hartman.

Udinski was 24-of-36 for 222 yards with the two touchdowns and one interception. Valdiserri and Bornman both added six receptions and a touchdown catch with Valdiserri's six catches going for 63 yards and Bornman's going for 62.

The Blue Jay defense held the Eagles to just 39 yards rushing on 30 attempts and matched a season-high with six sacks. Five different players posted at least one sack in the victory and senior Taylor Maciow(Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) paced the unit with 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup. Schweyer, who had twice previously returned blocked punts for touchdowns in his career against Juniata, added six tackles to go along with his interception return for a score.

Brandon Felus (Columbia, PA/Columbia) was one of three Juniata players to register eight tackles in the loss and he counted three tackles for losses and 1.5 sacks to his credit as well.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, October 13 when the Blue Jays travel to Dickinson. The Red Devils dropped a 36-28 decision to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
