JHU's Carbone Tabbed Centennial Special Teams Player of the Week
Sept. 24, 2012
BALTIMORE, MD -- Johns Hopkins junior kicker Richie Carbone(New York, NY/Poly Prep) has been named the Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Blue Jays' 33-21 win at previously unbeaten Muhlenberg last Saturday. This is the first time Carbone has earned the award in his career.
Carbone entered the game at Muhlenberg with two career field goals to his credit, but matched that total in a 10-minute span in the second quarter to turn a 7-7 tie into a 13-7 lead the Blue Jays would never relinquish. After making his first attempt from 23 yards, Carbone nailed a career-long 42-yard attempt with 19 seconds remaining in the second quarter to give the Blue Jays a six-point halftime lead. Carbone also hit all three of his extra points in the game.
Johns Hopkins (4-0, 3-0 Centennial) ran its regular season winning streak to 18 games and its Centennial Conference winning streak to 16 games with the win at Muhlenberg. The Blue Jays, who are ranked 15th in this week's AFCA Division III Coaches Poll and 19th by d3football.com, will host Juniata on Saturday at noon.
