No. 20 Thomas More Falls, 13-7, to No. 11 St. John Fisher In Overtime

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The 20th-ranked Thomas More College football team fell, 13-7, to 11th-ranked St. John Fisher College in overtime tonight (Saturday, September 1, 2012) in its season-opener at Growney Stadium in Rochester, New York.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 0-1, and with the win, the Cardinals improve to 1-0.  It was Thomas More's first overtime game since the 2006 season.

St. John Fisher led 7-0 after one quarter and the game was tied 7-7 at halftime, after three quarters and after regulation.

The Cardinals took a 7-0 lead with 7:04 to play in the first quarter when Tyler Stell caught a nine-yard pass from Ryan Kramer.

Thomas More tied the game at 7-7 when sophomore quarterback Luke Magness (Pleasureville, Ky./Henry County) connected on a six-yard pass to sophomore running back Devin Kendrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Reading) with 10:18 to play in the second quarter.

Thomas More had the ball first in overtime and couldn't score.  St. John Fisher won the game on their possession of the first overtime period when Cody Miller scored on a two-yard run.

The Saints were led offensively by Magness, who was 12-of-23 passing for 85 yards and one touchdown and had 11 rushes for 11 yards and junior running back Domonique Hayden (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Christian Academy), who had 12 carries for 17 yards and two catches for 29 yards.  Senior wide receiver Tony Bell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) had five catches for 25 yards and sophomore running back Landon Savoy (Radcliff, Ky./John Hardin) finished the game with three carries and 17 yards.

Freshman linebacker Nick Pennekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) led the Saints' defense with 10 tackles.  Junior defensive back Alex Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had eight and half tackles and one force fumble, senior linebacker Elijah Anglim (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) finished with seven tackles, while sophomore defensive lineman Erick Butler (Eminence, Ky./Henry County) had six and a half tackles and one sack.

Thomas More is idle until Saturday, September 15 when it hosts Westminster College in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
