Albion Scripts Good Start to Football Season

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Craig Rundle could not have scripted a better start to his 16th season as head football coach at Albion College. The Britons scored on six of their seven first-half possessions and cruised to a 55-0 victory over Defiance College.

"I was pleased with our execution," Rundle said. "We were crisp and sharp in every aspect of the game."

Spencer Krauss, the senior quarterback out of Clinton High School, was 10-of-13 for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. He hooked up with Zach Brewer for a 45-yard score in the first quarter and Brian Spencer on an 18-yard strike in the second.

"Spencer played like I thought he would because he had a great camp," Rundle said. "I think there was only one incompletion where the receiver didn't at least touch the ball."

The offense also ran the ball effectively as Clinton Orr ground up 86 yards in the first half and 107 for the day. He reached the end zone on carries of 8, 12, and 23 yards.

Dennis Duncan scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 30-yard run in the fourth quarter, and Darrin Williams made his Albion debut with 116 punt return yards and a 5-yard touchdown run.

Michael Czarnecki accounted for Albion's final touchdown on a 71-yard punt return.

The defense allowed 232 yards. Dillon Ervin and Adam Hahn collected 2 ½ tackles for loss and Brett McCarty picked off a pass.

Albion continues non-league play with a Sept. 8 home date against Wheaton College. It will be Community Day and the 1961 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship squad will return to campus for a reunion.

Maintenance in progress.
