More news about: Chapman

ANAHEIM, Calif. – For the second-consecutive year, four Chapman University football players have been named Scholar Athletes by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. Seniors Bret Visciglia, Jimmy Adranly, Spencer Sturken and Zach Kazarian were all honored Monday in the 42nd annual banquet hosted by the organization's Orange County Chapter at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Chapman has had 26 players selected as Scholar-Athletes by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame since 2001, with at least one player earning the honor every year since then with the exception of 2003.

Visciglia, the Panthers' starting quarterback for the last two seasons has a 3.545 cumulative grade-point average as a business administration major. He had a career-year in 2011 throwing for 1,776 yards and 10 touchdowns. Visciglia threw for a career-high 303 yards against Redlands in his final game as a Panther.

Adranly, a business major with a 3.309 GPA has twice been named to the Capital One Academic All-District team for his performance in the classroom and on the field, but this is his first Scholar-Athlete award from the National Football Foundation. As a senior, Adranly set a career-high with a 42.4 yards per punt average and tied a school record with a 69-yard punt against the University of La Verne.

Sturken and Kazarian were the other two Panthers to be honored this season. Sturken, a wide receiver for Chapman has a 3.51 GPA while Kazarian, a defensive back, has a 3.50 GPA.

To qualify for this award, a student athlete has to carry a 3.3 grade-point average or higher. The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, Inc. is a member-supported, non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the future of amateur football at the local, state and national levels. Since its beginnings in 1947, the Foundation has relied upon the support of volunteers to bring its mission and goals to communities all across the nation and now has more than 12,000 members and 120 chapters nationwide.
