Wodicka Leads Six Hopkins Players on d3football.com All-South Team

More news about: Johns Hopkins

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Johns Hopkins sophomore wide receiver Dan Wodicka (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette) has been named to the d3football.com All-South Region First Team and a five other Blue Jays grabbed second or third team honors it was announced today. Johns Hopkins' six selections were tied for the second-most among all teams in the south region and just one shy of leader Mary Hardin-Baylor's seven picks.

In addition to Wodicka's selection to the first team, the Blue Jays placed senior center Ed Rodger (Glen Ridge, NJ/St. Peters Prep), sophomore tackle Armand Jenifer (Teaneck, NJ/Bergen County Academies), senior defensive end Kale Sweeney (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) and senior safety Michael Milano (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) on the second team and senior quarterback Hewitt Tomlin (Jackson, TN/Trinity Christian) on the third team.

Wodicka, a First Team All-Centennial Conference selection this season, enjoyed one of the finest seasons in school history by a wide receiver as he had a school-record 87 receptions for 1,245 yards and seven touchdowns. He also paced the Blue Jays in all-purpose yards (1,423) and his 1,245 receiving yards are the second-highest single-season total in school history.

Rodger and Jenifer anchored a unit that paved the way for an offense that averaged school records of 39.8 points and 492.7 yards per game. Both were First Team All-Centennial selections this season and Rodger is a repeat selection to the all region team. Jenifer is one of just two sophomore offensive linemen in the country to earn first or second team all-region honors in any of the four regions.

Sweeney excelled in his only full season as a defensive end and adds the Second Team All-South selection to his previous nod as a First Team All-Centennial selection. Sweeney finished third on the team and first among defensive linemen with a career-high 61 tackles. He also led the team in sacks (5.0/16 yards) and tackles for losses (10.0/44 yards).

Milano, a three-time First Team All-Centennial selection at safety, missed one game with an injury, but still totaled 50 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and four pass breakups. He led a JHU pass defense that allowed just 141.2 passing yards per game and a total of just eight touchdown passes in 11 games. JHU's 11 opponents completed just 48.4 of their pass attempts this season.

In addition to earning First Team All-Centennial and Second Team All-South Region honors, Sweeney and Milano were two of Johns Hopkins' national-leading nine CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District selections as well.

Tomlin rounds out the Blue Jays' six all-region picks with his selection to the third team. Tomlin was 225-of-334 for 2,683 yards with 24 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions on the year. He threw for 200 or more yards in eight of the nine games he played, including a school-record 501-yard, seven-touchdown masterpiece at Gettysburg.

Johns Hopkins posted a 10-1 record, won the Centennial Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Playoffs for the second time in the last three years. The Blue Jays were ranked in the top 25 throughout the season and had a school-record 15-game winning streak before falling in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. The Centennial Conference title was the third straight and seventh in the last 10 years for Johns Hopkins.
