More news about: Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. - Scottie Williams and Griffin Gibson scored two touchdowns apiece to help the Elmhurst College football team to a 28-7 season-ending victory over Carthage College.

Elmhurst (6-4, 4-3 CCIW) led 14-7 at halftime and the Bluejays dominated the second half, outscoring Carthage (5-5, 3-4 CCIW) 14-0 while allowing the Red Men just 72 yards of offense in the final 30 minutes.

The Bluejays jumped on the scoreboard early in the second quarter, capping an 11-play, 91-yard scoring drive with a 15-yard touchdown sprint by Williams.

After a Carthage punt, the Bluejays made it 14-0, moving 72 yards in eight plays to find the end zone. Williams capped the drive with a four-yard touchdown run.

Carthage answered back on its ensuing possession. After a 25-yard pass from Trevor Beazley to Chris Schulz, Beazley hit Reggie Miller on a screen pass and Miller raced 39 yards to the end zone to make the score 14-7  in favor of the Bluejays.

Elmhurst opened the second half by driving 82 yards after the kickoff. Joe Furco capped the eight-play drive with a one-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Gibson.

The Bluejays put the game away early in the fourth quarter with a 46-yard scoring drive. Furco found Gibson for a 12-yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring drive.

Elmhurst dominated the clock in the second half, with Carthage possessing the ball for only seven minutes on offense. Elmhurst finished the contest with a 40:39 to 19:21 time of possession advantage. The Bluejays rolled up 516 yards of offense in the victory, rushing for 325 yards and passing for 281 yards. Carthage totaled 253 yards, with only 39 rushing yards in the game.

Williams turned in another record setting performance on the ground for the Bluejays. The junior running back rushed 33 times for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He finished the season with 1,374 yards, breaking his own single-season record of 1,220 set last season. He also became the first running back since the 2004 season to break the 1,000-yard barrier in CCIW contests.

Furco finished 18-of-29 for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Gentile was the Bluejays' top target, catching six passes for 73 yards. Gibson added three receptions for 33 yards and the two touchdowns.

Carthage was led by Reggie Miller's 62 rushing yards on 10 carries. Trevor Beazley completed 15-of-29 pass attempts for 180 yards.

Wayne Tuckson led the Bluejays' defense in the loss by recording six tackles and also recovering a fumble. Jerry Beach added five stops, including a sack, while also forcing a fumble.

Erik Solis and Josh Langensiepen totaled 10 tackles apiece for Carthage.

The Bluejays closed out the season with a 6-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in league play, earning them a top-four spot in the CCIW for the second time in four years.
