JHU Holds Second Spot in NCAA South Region Rankings

More news about: Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD -- For the second consecutive week, the Johns Hopkins football team is ranked second in the official NCAA South Region Poll. This is the second and final list of regional rankings that will be announced during the regular season, which ends on Saturday, November 12.

The regional rankings are compiled by the official Regional Advisory Committee and are a more accurate representation of where teams stand in the eyes of the NCAA Selection Committee that will put together the bracket for the upcoming NCAA Division III Football Playoffs. Johns Hopkins has already claimed the outright Centennial Conference title and the accompanying automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.

Mary Hardin-Baylor holds the top spot in the poll and is followed by Johns Hopkins, Trinity (TX), Wesley and McMurry in the top five. Wesley and Trinity flipped spots from last week's initial regional rankings.

The NCAA Playoffs will begin on Saturday, November 19 with 16 first-round games on campus sites. The bracket for the tournament will be set up in four, eight-team regions (East, South, North, West) and announced on Sunday, November 13 at 6 pm (live webcast on ncaasports.com). Six teams in the south region have already clinched automatic bids to the playoffs, although teams can be moved into another region to fill the bracket.

In addition to ranking second in the south region, Johns Hopkins is also ranked 10th in the AFCA Poll, 12th in the d3football.com Poll and third in the Lambert Cup Poll.

Johns Hopkins closes the regular season this Saturday at rival McDaniel (2-7, 2-6 CC). The bracket for the 2011 NCAA Division III Football Playoffs will be announced on Sunday, November 13 at 6 pm.
