Pacific's Craig Bailey Picks His Way To D3Football.com Team of the Week
FOREST GROVE – Cornerback Craig Bailey's (So., Fairfield, Calif.) defensive efforts in Pacific's 44-25 win over Puget Sound on Saturday have not gone unnoticed.
The second year defensive back earned selection to the D3Football.com Team of the Week, which was released on Tuesday. He becomes the second Pacific player ever selected to the weekly all-star squad, which is chosen by writers for the premiere news site for NCAA Division III football.
"Craig, like many of the players committed to building Pacific football, has improved with every week of experience over the last two seasons," said Pacific Head Coach Keith Buckley. "He took to heart the challenge presented to him by the coaching staff this week and played his best game as a Boxer against one of the most prolific passing teams in the nation."
Bailey played a key role in helping Pacific win their first game since the program was reinstated for the 2010 season. He finished with five tackles, including four solo efforts, and four pass break-ups. He also had the first of three Pacific interceptions in the game, picking off Puget Sound's Justin Braden in the end zone early in the third quarter and ran back 28 yards. Pacific scored on the next play with T.C. Campbell (So., Kaimuki, Hawaii) finding Jordan Fukumoto (So., Mililani, Hawaii) for a 72-yard touchdown reception.
Bailey has started all eight games this season for the Boxers at cornerback and enters the week with a total of 16 tackles. He leads the Northwest Conference with a total of 11 passes broken up. Bailey played in eight games as a freshman and started the Boxers' final three contests.
"We are very proud of the effort Craig has put forth to become the type of player that would be recognized on a national level," Buckley said. "We look forward to his continued growth as a football player in the coming years."
Pacific enters the week with a 1-7 overall record and in sixth place in the NWC at 1-4. The Boxers will conclude the 2011 season on the road on Saturday against Pacific Lutheran. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
