ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The MLC football team beat Crown 36-22 to pick up its first win of the season Saturday afternoon.
The Knights had a big day on the ground, rushing 60 times for 283 yards. Tyler Dorn finished the game with career highs in yards (129) and carries (25), while Joe Lindloff had 115 yards rushing on 24 carries. Lindloff also had two touchdown runs, while Dorn had one score on the day.
MLC was also able to get the passing game going, as Lindloff threw for 177 yards and a touchdown. Cody Hauch led the receivers with 60 yards receiving on two catches.
The Knights jumped on top early, taking an 8-0 lead on a one-yard Dorn touchdown run in the first quarter, and then pushed the lead to 14-0 on a Nicholas Kressin one-yard run early in the second quarter.
After the Storm scored to cut the lead to 14-7, the Knights took momentum into halftime when Lindloff found Micah Plocher for a six-yard touchdown strike in the final seconds of the half to give MLC a 21-7 lead.
The Storm hung around in the second half, but two Lindloff touchdown runs, including a 30-yard scamper in the final two minutes of the game, put the game away for the Knights.
The MLC defense was strong throughout the game. Ben Hansen had 13 tackles, while Chuqee Fletcher had 12 tackles, including two for loss and a sack, as the Knights held the Storm to 270 yards of total offense for the game.
With the win, MLC improved to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the UMAC, while Crown dropped to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 1, when they host Presentation. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
