Gallaudet's Quentin Williams bestowed with fourth ECFC Player of the Week award, Matt Harris repeats as Defensive Player of the Week
WHITTINGHAM, Vt. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its players of the week for October 31, and Gallaudet University received yet more honors as freshman quarterback Quentin Williams (Chesapeake, Va.) was named Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore defensive end Matt Harris (Lynchburg, Va.) repeated as Defense Player of the Week.
Williams ran for a career-high 234 yards on 20 carries in the first half alone, helping the Bison to victory in a 59-40 shootout against Castleton State College. The Bison offense tallied 532 yards on the ground in the game as Williams was responsible for 44 percent of the total. He averaged 11.7 yards per carry. He scored on a career-best 86-yard run three minutes into the game when he broke loose down the sideline on third and three. He followed that with a 23-yard touchdown run to start the second quarter when he faked the hand-off and ran up the middle.
Williams played the game's first five possessions (total of about 18 minutes) before he was knocked out of the game at the 3:23 mark in the second quarter with an injury and would not return.
This is Williams' fourth ECFC honor this season, as he has been named conference Rookie of the Week three times (Sept. 12, Oct. 3, Oct. 24).
Harris continued to pile up sacks for Gallaudet as he harassed Castleton quarterback Shane Brozowski, the top passer in the ECFC, and sacked him three times for a loss of 17 yards. He ended the game with six solo tackles, four quarterback hurries and four tackles for a loss of 19 yards. Harris also forced a fumble when he sacked Brozowski in the fourth quarter. This is the second straight week Harris has been named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Bison remain on the road next week when GU (5-3, 4-1 ECFC) travels to Newton, Mass., to face Mount Ida College (4-4, 3-2) on Saturday, November 5, at noon.
