Westminster Rallies In Fourth Quarter For UMAC Win

Fulton, Mo. – Westminster College scored 13 fourth quarter points to down the University of Minnesota-Morris 27-14 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference football action Saturday on Priest Field.

The Blue Jays (5-1, 4-1 UMAC) got on the board first on a fumble recovery in the end zone by junior Rodney Lyles (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) and the extra point by freshman Ross Richardson (Phoenix, Ariz./Arcadia). Trailing 14-7 midway through the third quarter, sophomore quarterback Scott Rodgers (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) hit junior Robert Williams (Warrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) with a 25-yard pass. Richardson tied the score 14-14 with his second point after. Westminster took the lead early in the fourth quarter on Rodger's 26-yard touchdown pass to junior James Gladstone (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney) and another Richardson PAT. Senior Shane Harris (St. Louis, Mo./Collinsville, Ill.) sealed the deal, returning an interception 65 yards on the final play of the game as time expired.

Westminster managed just 279 yards of offense, but held Minnesota-Morris (2-4, 2-3 UMAC) to 189 yards. Rodgers went 12-of-24 passing for 126 yards. Senior Zain Gower (Warrrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) rushed 78 yards on 15 carries, junior Carl Givens (Chesterfield, Mo./Chaminade) caught seven passes for 58 yards and junior Josh Bromberg (St. Charles, Mo./Christian Brothers) led the defense with nine tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.
