Mustangs Run Past Anna Maria

More news about: Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. (10.8.11) PAXTON, Mass. – Mount Ida College ran rampant over the AMCAT defense to the tune of 342 yards on the ground en route to a 56-7 victory at AMCAT field on a warm Saturday afternoon.  The Mustangs improve to 2-3 on the year (1-1 ECFC), while Anna Maria falls to 0-5 (0-3 ECFC) season.

The Visitors were led by senior half-back Johrone Bunch (Meriden, Conn.) who bowled over the Anna Maria defense for 211 yards and a touchdown.  Bunch also finished the contest with outstanding 9.2 yards per carry average. Junior quarterback Scott Drosendahl (East Aurora, N.Y.) also starred, passing for three touchdowns while rushing for a pair.

The AMCATS were led by quarterback Santino Simone (Worcester, Mass.) and wide receiver Dom Concepcion (Middlebury, Conn.).  The junior classmates hooked up for the only AMCAT touchdown of the game, a spectacular 60-yard bomb.  Simone finished the game with 184 passing yards while Concepcion added 97 yards on four receptions.

Johrone Bunch was used early and often, as he slashed through the Anna Maria defense on the first drive of the contest for 41 yards.  His 20 yard scamper set up a 13 yard touchdown reception by Nick Lynch (Hampton Bays, N.Y.).

Mount Ida was in complete control from there, rolling off 35 unanswered points.  They received touchdowns from Scott Drosendahl (two rushing), Johrone Bunch (34-yard rushing TD) and Jordan Hyman (16 yard TD reception).

The AMCATS finally broke up the run when Santino Simone hit Dom Concepcion in stride after Concepcion burned his defender down the sideline.  Two defenders had Concepcion wrapped up near the goal-line, however, he refused to go down and scored on his second effort attempt.

The following drive Scott Drosendahl hooked up with Xavier Snipe (Brockton, Mass.) for a 30-yard touchdown and sent Mount Ida into half-time with a 42-9 lead.

Mount Ida scored twice in the third quarter on two rushing touchdowns from Kareem Cope (Stamford, Conn.) and Mackenzie Lamour (Brookline, Mass.) in the victory.

The Mustangs amassed 483 yards of total offense, while the AMCATS struggled to get the offense going with 159 yards.  The visitors also held a sizeable time of possession advantage 34:02-24:36, as Mount Ida forced the AMCAT defense to stay on the field for extended periods of time.

The AMCAT Football team takes to the road next Saturday against SUNY-Maritime at 2:00 pm in search of their first victory of the season.
