Turnovers Costly In Westminster's UMAC Road Loss

Eureka, Ill. - Westminster College committed six turnovers in a 22-18 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference loss to Eureka College Saturday. For the Blue Jays (4-1, 3-1 UMAC), the loss was their first in the series in four games to Eureka (3-1, 3-0 UMAC).

Westminster fell behind early in the first quarter and trailed 14-6 at halftime. The Blue Jays scored early in the third period to trail 14-12 and then took the lead midway through the fourth quarter on a 92-yard blocked field goal return. Eureka scored with over five minutes remaining in the game and held on for the victory.

The Blue Jay offense finished with 388 yards, but sophomore Scott Rodgers (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) was just 18-of-27 for 262 yards. He was picked off four times, sacked twice and lost a fumble. Senior Zain Gower (Warrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) rushed for 100 yards on 21 carries and junior Justin Grahl (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) was the leading receiver, hauling in seven passes for 71 yards. Junior Tashon Fultz (Kansas City, Mo./Northeast) led the defense, finishing with 11 tackles.
