BALTIMORE, MD -- One week after debuting at number 23 in the inaugural American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Poll of the 2011 season, the Johns Hopkins football team has cracked the top 20 as the Blue Jays check in at number 20 this week. The Blue Jays earned 256 points to grab the number 20 spot. Johns Hopkins (4-0, 3-0 Centennial Conference) is also ranked 23rd in this week's D3football.com poll. The Blue Jays were listed as receiving votes in the four previous D3football.com polls this season.

The AFCA Poll, which the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications Office uses to reflect JHU's official national ranking, is headed again this week by two-time defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater, which grabbed 39 of 42 first-place votes and totaled 1,047 points. Mount Union earned the other three first-place votes and checks in at number two with 1,011 points. St. Thomas (MN) (940 points), Mary Hardin-Baylor (931) and Bethel (MN) (821) round out the top five.

This is the 20h week that JHU has been ranked in the top 25 since the formation of the AFCA poll in 1999. Including this week's #20 ranking, JHU has been in the top 25 or listed as receiving votes 58 times since 1999. This is the 12th time Johns Hopkins has been ranked in the top 20.

The Blue Jays will put their nine-game winning streak - the third-longest in school history - on the line this Saturday (October 1) when they travel to Juniata for a Centennial Conference game. The nine-game winning streak is tied for the second-longest active streak in the nation and is just two shy of the school-record 11-game runs the Blue Jays have had twice previously (2002-03 / 2004-05).
