Greenville, Ill. - Sophomore Scott Rodgers (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) threw for a career high 409 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 46 yards and another score in leading Westminster College to a 45-28 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference road win over defending UMAC champion Greenville College Saturday. With the win the Blue Jays (4-0, 3-0 UMAC) snap a four-game losing streak to Greenville and record their first 4-0 start since the 1998 season.
Westminster grabbed the first lead of the game, but after two lead changes, Greenville (0-3, 0-2 UMAC) took a 14-12 lead into halftime. Westminster scored early and the third period and never trailed in compiling 551 yards of offense. Senior running back Zain Gower (Warrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) carried the ball 25 times for 119 yards and two scores and was the recipient of one of Rodger's TD passes.
While the Blue Jay offense was churning out yardage and built up a 33:34 to 26:26 edge in time of possession, the Westminster defense held Greenville to 360 yards. Senior Kelvin Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Gateway Tech.) recorded 11 tackles, a tackle for a loss and a sack, and senior DeMarco Moorehead (Hazelwood, Mo./Vianney) recorded two of the team's three interceptions.
