Worthington named preseason All-American

Hobart sophomore Devin Worthington earned a spot on the D3football.com preseason All-America second team. The linebacker is the only sophomore among the 22 first and second team defense selections.

The 2010 Liberty League Rookie of the Year, Worthington finished third on the team and eighth in the conference with 74 tackles (8.2/g). A lightning quick and elusive pass rusher, he led the conference and ranked fifth in the nation in tackles for a loss (2.11/g) and led the conference and ranked eighth in the nation in sacks (1.11/g). Worthington registered 10 tackles in each of his first two collegiate games, posting a season-high three sacks at Carnegie Mellon. He logged a season-high 12 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, in a double overtime victory against Union. 

In addition to earning the conference's top rookie award, Worthington garnered first team All-East honors from D3football.com and first team All-Liberty League praise. At the 2011 Block H Awards Dinner, he took home the Rookie Award for Football and the Abe Solomon Memorial Rookie Award, presented to Hobart Athletics' Rookie of the Year.

The Statesmen, 5-4 in 2010, will kick off the 2011 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Dickinson. Hobart handled the Red Devils 38-7 last season. Dickinson leads the all-time series 10-9-1, hasn't lost to the Statesmen in Carlisle, Pa., since 2005 (21-0).
