Hobart senior wide receiver Garth Muratori and sophomore punter Yosh Karbowniczak were named the Liberty League Football Offensive Performer of the Week and Special Teams Performer of the Week, respectively. The duo led the Statesmen to a 33-9 season-opening victory at Dickinson on Saturday.
Muratori caught seven passes for 127 yards and a touchdown against the Red Devils. He was especially clutch on Hobart's first scoring drive. With the Statesmen facing second and 10 from their own 1, he pulled in a 29-yard reception to give the offense some room to operate. Eight plays later, he capped the drive with a 31-yard TD catch for the first score of the season.
The league leader in receptions and receiving yards, Muratori moved into a tie for eighth place on Hobart's career receiving touchdowns list (11) and moved up one spot to No. 12 on the career receptions list (83).
Karbowniczak averaged a league-high 37.3 yards per punt. He kicked three times on Saturday with his longest punt traveling 40 yards. He also pinned Dickinson inside its own 20 once, marking the ninth straight game that he's landed at least one punt inside the 20. Also a wide receiver, Karbowniczak caught three passes for 40 yards against the Red Devils.
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24, when the Statesmen visit St. John Fisher. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will air live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3).
