The Illinois College football team rolled up over 550 yards of total offense en route to a 48-35 win over Lake Forest College on Saturday as Michael Bates, Matt Williamson and Cecil Brimmage turned in strong performances.
Bates completed 27-of-40 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 69 yards on the ground. Williamson tallied just 20 yards rushing, but found the end zone four times. Brimmage chipped in 118 yards rushing and a touchdown to go along with four catches for 25 yards and another score.
IC (3-0, 2-0 MWC) gained 552 yards of total offense, thanks to its best rushing output of the season. The Blueboys' passing game was also on point as Bates found eight different receivers. Brock Thompson led the way with nine catches for 100 yards. Colin Duling added five catches for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Brothers Jake DeFauw (10 tackles) and Dylan DeFauw (7 tackles, 2 break ups) led the IC defense. Willie Barefield added seven tackles. Mitch Brasher was 4-of-5 on extra point kicks.
Illinois College is 3-0 for the first time since 2004, when the team started 4-0. The 2011 Blueboys will have a chance to match that when they host Monmouth College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
