Five Blue Jays Named Team Captain For 2011 Football Season

Fulton, Mo. - Seniors Carl Givens and Zain Gower, and junior James Gladstone, Rodney Lyles and Tashan Fultz have been named team captains for the 2011 Westminster College football season. The Blue Jays host Rockford College to open the season at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, on Priest Field.

Givens, an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) first team all-league receiver from Chesterfield, Mo. (Chaminade), caught 54 passes and scored 13 touchdowns, while leading the league and finishing 30th nationally with a 99.5 yards a game average a year ago. Gower, a senior running back from Warrensburg, Mo. (Warrensburg), rushed for 18 yards on five carries before being lost for the season with injury in the 2010 opener.

Gladstone, a junior receiver from St. Louis, Mo. (Vianney), caught 29 passes for 501 yards and three scores last year. Lyles, an all-conference first team junior from St. Louis, Mo. (Clayton), led the Blue Jays with 3.5 sacks a year ago. Fultz, a second-team all-league junior performer from Kansas City, Mo. (Northeast), led the league last season in tackles for loss.
