Chicago Ties NCAA Record in Win at Kenyon

More news about: Chicago

En route to a 35-14 win at Kenyon Saturday afternoon, Chicago tied an NCAA Division III season record for most touchdowns scored on blocked punt returns.

Leading 21-0 midway through the second quarter, Chicago (5-2) forced Kenyon to punt from its own 31-yard line. Cameron Grimes blocked the punt and Danny Polaneczky returned it 22 yards for the score.

Polaneczky's runback marked the Maroons' fifth blocked punt return for a touchdown this season, matching the NCAA Division III record set by Widener University in 1990.

A pair of touchdown passes from Marshall Oium sandwiched around a touchdown run by Tommy Parks gave the Maroons a 21-0 lead after one period.

Oium connected with Clay Wolff from 19 yards out at the 7:29 mark, before Parks scored on a 19-yard run with 4:00 to play. Oium then hooked up with Dee Brizzolara on an 80-yard scoring strike with 1:35 left in the quarter.

Kenyon (0-7) got on the board with 15 seconds remaining in the first half on Brett Williams' 3-yard run.

The score remained 28-7 until early in the fourth quarter when Oium and Wolff linked up on a 36-yard touchdown completion.

Kenyon capped the scoring at the 4:18 mark on Williams' second touchdown run of the day, this time from 5 yards away.

Oium completed 19 of 38 attempts for 325 yards and three scores with one interception. Brizzolara caught seven passes for 166 yards, and Wolff gained 114 yards on five receptions.

Jordan Brooks rushed for 166 yards on 38 carries for the Lords. Quarterback Dan Shannon was 20 for 41 for 161 yards and two picks.

Chicago, which extended its winning streak to three games, outgained Kenyon 461-343 despite a nearly 15-minute deficit in time of possession (37:05 to 22:55).
