Tomlin Garners Second Straight Centennial Player of the Week Award

More news about: Johns Hopkins

LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins junior quarterback Hewitt Tomlin (Jackson, TN/Trinity Christian) has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week it was announced today.  Tomlin guided the Blue Jays to a 41-3 win at Moravian on Saturday and in the process tied the Johns Hopkins career record for wins by a quarterback (19).

Tomlin was 18-of-33 for 219 yards with two touchdowns against one interception in the win over the Greyhounds.  He added a game and career-high 65 yards rushing to account for 284 yards of total offense. His 53-yard run in the second quarter against the Greyhounds was the longest of his career and the longest by Johns Hopkins player this season.

For the year, Tomlin is now 60-of-102 for 929 yards with six touchdowns against five interceptions.  He leads the Centennial Conference in passing yards per game (309.7) and total offense (335.7).  He has also rushed for 76 yards and one touchdown.

Tomlin's effort at Moravian continued his assault on the Johns Hopkins record books.  He improved his school record for 200-yard passing games to 17 and is now 452-of-764 for 5,418 yards and 32 touchdowns.  He ranks third in career completions, fourth in yards, fifth in attempts and tied for sixth in touchdown passes.  In addition, he tied Mark Campbell's 25-year-old school record for wins by a starting quarterback at Johns Hopkins.  Campbell's 19 wins had stood as the mark since 1985.  Tomlin is 19-6 as JHU's starting quarterback.

Johns Hopkins is currently 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference. Tomlin and the Blue Jays ended a stunning seven-game road swing with last Saturday's 41-3 win at Moravian (JHU went 5-2 during the stretch, which dates back to the final regular season game of the 2009 season and included three NCAA Playoff games last season) and will finally play a home game when Muhlenberg (2-1 overall, 2-0 CC) visits Homewood Field on Saturday (2 pm).
