DePauw moved to 3-0 for the third time in the last four years and improved to 2-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play following a 35-7 win over visiting Sewanee which dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Senior quarterback Michael Engle tossed four touchdown passes including a school-record tying three to all-American Alex Koors. With his 157 receiving yards, Koors broke the DePauw career mark of 2,913 held by Dan Ryan (1999-02).
Sewnee drove to the DePauw 30 before fumbling on the game's first series and the host Tigers took advantage on their first possession as Derrick Karazsia rushed in from 2 yards. DePauw, however, couldn't capitalize on the next three series as it was stopped at the Sewanee 3 and missed a pair of field goals.
Engle and Koors teamed for a 61-yard scoring pass with 7:48 left in the half before Mark Branigan made it 21-0 with a 12-yard strike from Engle.
Koors hauled in touchdown passes of 5 and 43 yards to push the lead to 35-0 before Sewanee's Ben Cleveland scored on a 22-yard pass from Lee Schurlknight with 8:50 left.
Engle completed 25 of 37 passes for a career-high 384 yards with four scores and no interceptions. Koors hauled in six for 157 yards as he topped the 100-yard plateau for the 13th time in his career and extended his streak of catching a pass to 32 games.
Brayden Dahlstrom caught six for 76 yards and Jon Ellis had five for 53. Derrick Karazsia rushed for 67 yards on 13 carries and had one score.
Schurlknight completed 18 of 33 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown and was intercepted once. Michael Poarch caught five for 34 yards and Cleveland hauled in four for 46 and the one score. Schurlknight led the way with 39 rushing yards in 15 tries.
DePauw outgained Sewanee in total offense, 524-267 and totaled 27 first downs to the guests' 17. Each team finished with 130 rushing yards, but the hosts held a 394-137 advantage through the air.
Jonathan Lambert had a career-best 13 tackles, while Steve Valdiserri had eight. Joshua Sturek led with two tackles for loss and had the Tigers' only sack.
Alfonza Knight paced Sewanee with 16 tackles including 13 solos, while Zac Atkins totaled nine.
DePauw travels to Millsaps on Saturday, October 2, while Sewanee hosts Centre next Saturday.
