The Orange and Black received 24 votes on D3Football.com and 22 votes from the American Football Coaches Association. … On the overall league statistics chart through three weeks, coach Rick Willis' defensive crew is first in fewest points (27) and yards (256 per game) allowed. The "D" is also first in interceptions (six) and sacks (13). Individually, junior defensive lineman Matt Tschetter of Milford is first in sacks (five), while the defensive backfield tandem of sophomore Garrett McGrane of Fairbanks and senior Andrew Creary of Knoxville are first and third in interceptions (three and two, respectively). On offense, sophomore running back Reese Thompson of Van Horne leads the conference in rushing (119.3 ypg), and the team is first as well (223 ypg) and third in points (29.3 pg). … Junior quarterback Danny Stiefel of Sterling Heights, Mich.'s outing last weekend increased the run of Knights' quarterbacks with 100-yard games to 36 straight. … In regards to the NCAA Division III statistics charts, Wartburg is among the top 10 in sacks (four per game – No. 7), turnover margin (plus 2.33 – No. 6) and fewest sacks allowed (.33 per game – No. 9). Individually, Tschetter is tied for sixth in sacks per game (1.67), and junior punter Robby Salmon of Mason City is fifth in yards per kick average (43.11)
