The Mississippi College Choctaws (5-2, 3-2 ASC) hung with second-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor (7-0, 6-0 ASC) for much of the first half Saturday for homecoming weekend but watched the Crusaders run away with an impressive 69-30 win that included an ASC record 652 rushing yards.
The Crusaders' ground game churned out nine rushing touchdowns to pick up the win. Most of the damage was done by Jarvis Thrasher, who finished with an ASC record 324 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Quincy Daniels also had a big day on the ground, running for 199 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns.
MC entered the game ranked 4th nationally in rushing defense allowing opponents just 44 yards per game on the ground.
The Choctaws trailed 28-17 with 1:15 remaining in the first half before UMHB tailback Quincy Daniels raced 87 yards to give the Crusaders a 35-17 first half lead. The long touchdown run was just one of seven Crusader runs over 60 yards. Thrasher set a new school record in the first quarter with an 89-yard touchdown run, but was quickly topped by Daniels in the third quarter with a 93-yard scoring run.
The Choctaws were led by Adam Shaffer, who finished the game with 488 yards passing on 35 completions. Shaffer set a school record for completions and attempts in the game. Jake Allen caught 11 balls for 185 yards and two touchdows to lead the receiving corps. Marcus Terry added nine receptions for 123 yards.
Allen set a new school record for career touchdowns hauling in his 20th and 21st career scores. Junior kicker Kyle Kruse also set a new school record when his 31-yard first half field goal gave him 23 for his career.
The Choctaws will move on to play East Texas Baptist in Marshall, TX next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
