Stagg Bowl XIII
Augustana 20, Ithaca 7
December 1985, in Phenix City, Ala.

The Division III playoffs expanded from eight to 16 teams, but the extra round didn't stop Augustana from winning its third consecutive title, 20-7 against Ithaca.

The win kept the Vikings’ 37-game victory streak alive. Augustana’s last loss was at the 1982 Stagg Bowl in Phenix City.

Augustana (13-0) controlled the ball and the clock, rushing 73 times and holding the ball for 41:05. Brad Price carried 27 times for 124 yards. The Vikings scored twice in the first 14 seconds of the second half; Shane McCormick scored on a 1-yard run two seconds into the half, then, after Ithaca fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Eric Welgat caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Greg Wallace.
