Thomas More, Albion fall after clinching

DePauw had almost no offense whatsoever but scratched out the points it needed to hand Albion a post-clinching loss.

Josh Graham completed 27 of 51 passes for 250 yards and Waynesburg rallied after coughing up a 23-7 lead to knock off No. 8 Thomas More 26-23.

Waynesburg led 23-7 late in the third quarter before the Saints put up back-to-back scores with two-point conversions to tie the game a little over five minutes later. But the Yellow Jackets ground out a 13-play, 44-yard drive capped by a 24-yard Chris Marini field goal and held on for the win.

Albion clinched its automatic bid last week but fell to DePauw 7-3, assuring itself of a tough first-round playoff matchup in two weeks. DePauw got the victory to improve to 4-4 despite just 126 yards of total offense.

Two Division III career records fell on Saturday, as Luther linebacker Kyle McGivney surpassed 531 career tackles, and now has 249 solo, 285 assisted. Luther beat Cornell 37-7. And Alex Tanney set his second career record in as many weeks, passing Guilford's Josh Vogelbach in career yards in a 56-27 win against Knox.

No. 12 Delaware Valley got one step closer to the automatic bid out of the MAC, as freshman quarterback Aaron Wilmer scored on an 8-yard touchdown run with just 13 seconds remaining to lift the Aggies to a 28-21 triumph at Lycoming. Delaware Valley faces Widener next week for the conference automatic bid.

No. 24 Hobart missed an opportunity to clinch the Liberty League, coughing up a 28-17 halftime lead and falling to RPI 29-28. No. 19 St. Olaf saw itself basically eliminated from at-large consideration, falling 27-24 at St. John's as the Johnnies got 38 carries for 196 yards from running back Steve Johnson. No. 14 Johns Hopkins avoided the hangover, holding off a late rally to defeat Franklin and Marshall 28-23. Noah Timm picked off his fifth and sixth passes of the season as top-ranked UW-Whitewater defeated UW-Eau Claire 37-22. The Warhawks passed for just 95 yards but Levell Coppage ran for 236 in the win. He went over 7,000 rushing yards for his career and stands at 7,012.

McMurry knocked off No. 20 Louisiana College on the road behind 531 yards passing, staying in the hunt for an at-large bid with a 49-28 victory. Lewis and Clark's undefeated run ended with a 57-28 home loss to Willamette, meaning it's all or nothing for the surprising Pioneers next week against Linfield. The No. 5 Wildcats survived an upset attempt from Whitworth, winning 42-38 thanks to four Pirate failed extra points. No. 21 Illinois Wesleyan remained in the playoff hunt, scoring the final 13 points to defeat Carthage 13-9. No. 16 Kean and No. 17 Montclair State remained in the NJAC title picture, with Kean rolling over William Paterson 45-0 and Montclair State rallying to defeat Rowan 37-21 in overtime.

Adrian came all the way back to tie the game after Hope took a 21-0 lead. But any hopes the Bulldogs had of getting an at-large playoff bid evaporated as the Flying Dutchmen won 24-21 in overtime.

Anna Maria finally won a game for the first time, recovering a fumble at the Becker 20-yard line in the fourth quarter and capping off a short drive with a 2-yard touchdown run by Santino Simone to defeat Becker 35-33. The AMCATs had lost the first 27 games in program history. MacMurray snapped a 20-game losing streak as well, defeating Eureka 40-21. It's just the second win for the Highlanders in their past 47 games, an .042 winning percentage.

Amherst remained undefeated, topping Trinity (Conn.) 35-28 and wrapping up the NESCAC title. The NESCAC chooses not to participate in the NCAA playoffs.

Ithaca's streak of 40 consecutive winning seasons came to an end at the hands of Alfred, 21-19. It was Alfred's first win at Ithaca since 1982.
