Wilmington alumnus takes coaching reins

More news about: Wilmington
Ken Minor has been named football coach at Wilmington. A 1973 graduate, Minor returns to his alma mater with 38 years of coaching experience.

"We are very pleased that Ken has decided to lead our football program into the future," Wilmington athletic director Terry Rupert said. "Ken is an outstanding leader, teacher and coach."

Minor was a four-year starter at tight end for Wilmington and was an NAIA honorable mention All-America selection in 1971. His coaching career began as an assistant to former Wilmington head coach Bill Ramseyer in 1972.

Minor spent the ensuing 37 years coaching high school football in Cincinnati. He was an assistant coach for six seasons at Reading High School before being named head coach in 1979. He led the Blue Devils to four league championships and six appearances in the state playoffs. His 2000 squad advanced to the state semifinals.

In 27 seasons as coach at Reading, Minor compiled a 170-129-1 record. He was a two-time district coach of the year and was named Cincinnati Hills League Coach of the Year four times. After spending the 2008 season as offensive coordinator at North College Hill High School, Minor was named head coach at Summit Country Day High School. In 2009, he led the Silver Knights to a 5-5 mark, their best record in the past eight seasons.

A 2002 Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Minor said he is excited to return to the Quakers' sideline.

"I'm flattered and thrilled to be coming back to a place that was very special to me for many years," Minor said. "I just feel like destiny has beckoned me to come back. I love coaching football and the relationships you build with the players and coaches. Teams that I have coached have been known for the intensity that they played with."
