My English teacher from high school would be happy. I am writing. It isn’t the great America novel she’s still hoping for, but it is a start. She still thinks my business career is wasting my true talents. I don’t know. It’s just that every time I think about writing 300-plus pages, I get the image of Snoopy typing “It was a dark and stormy night…”

So my great American novel remains unwritten, but I’ve had a blast covering Rowan for my own site and writing for D3football.com.

The Keeler factor
KC Keeler wins his first National Championship with Division I-AA Delaware, after five tries with Rowan. As I was watching Delaware beat Colgate that Friday night I said to my Dad, “Maybe it’s an omen, now St. John’s will beat Mount Union tomorrow.”

Rankings…. We don’t need no stinkin’ rankings
RPI spent most of the season out of D3football.com’s Top 25. They were berated for their low SOS, but then the Engineers rolled through the East bracket and were tied at half with No. 1 St. John’s.

East Region gets a B
The Eastern region had a lot more going for it in 2003 than 2002. The Springfield field bracket [East] came away with four of the six Pool B bids: Brockport, Ithaca, Montclair, RPI. The playoff games were generally competitive, and the bracket winner hung with the national champs for three quarters.

Football officials get an F
It ain’t getting any better. As a former referee, I am appalled at the lack of skill and teamwork amongst various officiating crews in the East. I saw too many bad calls and wrong rulings. Is it any surprise the crew that blew some big calls in the Stagg Bowl was from the East?

Lastly, we love DIII football
We are a community. The outpouring of compassion to Lycoming teammates, friends and family of Ricky Lannetti depicted that. Some of the best memorial tributes were written from people across the country right on this site.

Love ’em or hate ’em, 55 games in a row for a classy Mount Union program is amazing. The only problem is that the Raiders are mad now.

Who didn’t enjoy watching, Blake Elliot running, catching, spinning, and scoring on one good leg?
