We've broken Division III football down into seven regions to enhance our coverage of regional stories. Our regional columnists will file weekly columns covering their part of the country. Here's how they break down:
Northeast: ECFC, NEFC, NESCAC
East: E8, LL, MAC, NJAC
Mid-Atlantic: Centennial, ACFC, ODAC, USAC
Great Lakes: MIAA, NCAC, OAC, PAC
South: ASC, SCAC
Midwest: CCIW, HCAC, NATHC, MWC
West: IIAC, MIAC, NWC, SCIAC, WIAC
Each column will also cover independents in their part of the country, as well as teams from multi-region conferences. The most recent submission from each columnist is below:
| West | Fritz causing fits in return game (Nov 04) Fritz Waldvogel, the St. Thomas wide receiver and kick returner, does not impose fear in his opponents with his stature: 5-9 and 165 pounds. But put a ball in his hands and this shifty, pint-sized jukebox leaves opponents grasping at air. Need proof? Waldvogel leads the... Click here for the whole column |
| South | Four teams look forward (Nov 18) Teams in Around the South’s coverage area took home four playoff bids on Sunday. Three of them enter the Division III dance for the first time in Mississippi College, Huntingdon and DePauw. For Mary Hardin-Baylor, it is their sixth straight appearance and eighth time this... The Mariners defeated Curry in the NEFC championship game Saturday when a... Click here for the whole column |
| Midwest | Lakeland gets a hand, now needs some help (Nov 17) The Lakeland Muskies were celebrating what they believed at the time was a co-Northern Athletic Conference championship last Saturday after beating defending champion Aurora 28-0 on Senior Day in Sheboygan, Wis. Then someone piped in the audio play-by-play of the Concordia (Ill.)/Benedictine game. Concordia, which had... Click here for the whole column |
| Mid-Atlantic | JHU's season plays tough start to finish (Nov 17) Johns Hopkins came out of the gate this season against the brick wall of Delaware Valley. But despite a 23-7 loss, the Blue Jays did what many teams are lauded for doing: schedule tough out of conference games and get into the playoffs by way... Click here for the whole column |
| Great Lakes | Trine gets a second chance (Nov 18) Trine is no longer the new kid on the block in the Division III playoffs. Last season, the Thunder went 10-0 in the regular season and won the school’s first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football championship. They also made their first trip to the postseason. However,... Click here for the whole column |
| East | Finally, acceptance (Nov 18) For the past two seasons, I’ve complained and had hope with Mount Union being moved into the “East” bracket. This year, I’m going in a third direction. I think the committee did a great job in picking the eight-team bracket for the 32-team tournament. Joy Solomen, the athletic... Click here for the whole column |
